Ha! Glad it's not just me! Had exactly the same problem with server crashing but blamed it on useless work computer. And loading up a photo was a bit of a challenge. But I got there after 6 hours.
And then, next day, get a phone call from the lady at the US embassy asking why I didn't send a printed photo of me as well. Eh?!?
See you in Washington?

Yep, that was one of my first thoughts, in fact. But trying with IE provoked the same number of database crashes. Tks for the suggestion, though.

Not sure it's wise to moan about a visa application that hasn't even been processed yet!

Not sure it's wise to admit to possible fraudulent activity and then also point readers to the person whose mug you used to perpetrate possible fraud :)

Maria,

Forgive me for asking what may be a stupid question, but have you tried any other browsers? Firefox, Opera, even Chrome?

I love the Apple boxes, and some of the software is top drawer but Safari is, kindly, less than optimal.

I certainly hope by this point you have dealt with this process successfully.

YIKES! There's something about the mounting inefficiencies in the US system, in almost every department that frankly terrifies me.

If its any consolation, its been like this for a while. Even using the expedited J1 process I got delayed by about a week on my trip to the US because they changed the regulations so that instead of CAN the forms had to be printed with CANADA. This changed happened while said documents were en route...

Thanks all. I agree with Antony that Peter was superb. His mastery of detail is impressive, and there's nothing like seeing an IP lawyer demolish the flimsiest of trademark arguments. The session demonstrated to me that we have no shortage of superior thinkers on this Board - don't always agree with them, but they were truly impressive yesterday.

Maria, your notes seem right to me. But some of the drama doesn't quite come through, and this was a dramatic meeting. The GAC came in with their usual litany of trademark and law-enforcement inspired quibbling. Board members Subrenat, Silber, Jennings, Dengate Thrush exposed, without apology and with a minimum of niceties, the inadequacy of argument, the lack of preparation, and the narrowness of vision of the GAC. Subrenat said that he didn't consider an economic study as any kind of gating requirement for new gTLDs. Silber meticulously demolished the UK GAC rep's representations about trademarks. Jennings challenged the GAC to stop bringing "passive" advice. PDT noted that the GAC had asked ICANN to delay a vote on EOIs to give them more time to come up with a position, but that in the intervening 3 months they had come up with nothing. Beckstrom's final salvo was a challenge to the GAC to actually bring advice (as in "Advisory Committee"), on a subject where their governments surely had an interest and a view (security) instead of sitting with folded arms in paternal judgment. There was none of the servile bowing and scraping that was so characteristic of Twomey's reign.
